Hutch 3G, or "3" as we'll know it on the street, targets 2m 3G users across UK and Italy by end 2003, and isn't worried about GPRS (Philips doesn't agree though, saying that GPRS and 802.11x services may eat 3G's lunch). 3's 3G services are due to launch in October (but we're not holding our breath) and will "will include television, email, games and sports programs". Woo.
And how will we buy our 3G handsets and services? 3's parent Hutchinson Whampoa has scooped up Kruidvat Group (which owns Superdrug) for E1.3bn. The health and beauty chain has 1,900 outlets, employs 24,000 workers across Euroland, and will be used as a distribution channel for 3G, whilst destroying Carphone Warehouse and Boots on the side.

The Reg reviews the 7650 and likes what it sees. Much excitement over the new Series 60 user interface, which will soon be seen licensed to other handset mfrs. Back in the day features and UI were Nokia's key selling points. But recently it just hasn't felt like there have been many innovative hits (despite Mr Advice's best efforts). Are they selling out their edge for short-term profit? Have they grown too big? Either way, Nok are firmly in the software biz, which is a benefit for the Sybian platform, on which Series 60 runs. And Rodcorp still thinks Nokia should buy an operator or a bank.
More on Series 60 platform licensing: Siemens, Panasonic, Samsung.

Likely to speed the demise of Arrows team, but no bad thing for Orange - F1 sponsorship always seemed too establishment for them (the edgy upstart role they once owned is now firmly embodied by younger companies, particularly given Voda's relationship with Ferrari.
