Kind Of
"I know you from somewhere, but I don't know where," he said.
We were waiting for others to show up and sharing some satay in the meantime. I had a skewer with some peanut sauce on it in my hand and was looking hard at his face trying to pull up a memory, but nothing came, much as nothing comes all too often these days.
He stared back and said, "It'll come to me."
"Where'd you go to school?" I asked, but it wasn't that.
"Did your son ever do scouts?" he asked, and my reaction perked us both up until we realized that was a dead-end, too.
"Are you Catholic?" he asked.
"No, I'm kind of Unitarian," I said and then added, "I was going to ask you if you were Unitarian."
He pushed back in his chair and laughed loudly. I guess it was kind of funny in a funny kind of way.
We never did figure it out.
