Things are not what they seem. Nor are they otherwise. --Lankaratara Sutra 6:05:47 PM comment [] |

My previous entry reminded me of something Anuradha Mittal of Food First said the other day (actually, I'd heard it before, so I don't think she can take full credit, but in anycase, it was a good reminder).
It's not alternative versus mainstream media. Really it's independent versus commercial media. |

Fluff to a new level.
I was just listening to National Public Radio (NPR), and caught the tail-end of a piece on a guy who is trying to visit all of the world's Starfucks. This interview went on for at least 5 minutes. I can't believe this passes for news, or even for a light feature!!! And the host is asking him serious questions, "what is your favorite starbucks?" as if this is a noteworthy endeavor!
This is about as exciting as the story they did a few weeks ago on "How to eat Peeps" (the marshmellow Easter treat). That, too, went on for several minutes--eat the head first, stale, or nuke 'em for a few seconds. Do I really care?
There's got to be something better to cover than these 5 minute glorified ads! |

I love google's image search. It opened up a whole new world to me. ![]() My favorite search so far has been for nudibranches (sea slugs).
