Anuradha Mittal advocates the "radical" concept that food is a human right.
Hunger is not caused by shortage of food. According to our research over the last 26 years at Food First, the world's farmers produce 4.3 pounds of food per person, per day. This includes vegetables, cereals, fish, meat, and grains. People are hungry because they are too poor to buy food.
Why are countries exporting food when their own people are starving, like Ethopia exporting green beans to Europe during the great famine? How food aid is used as a political tool, not relief.
Anuradha Mittal explores the root causes of hunger and how governments and corporations cover them up. |
