Speaking of things that are cool, Safari is cool. This is a business model I'd love to see thrive.. so if you're into computer books, go sign up.

Terrarium is cool, but Microsoft must really trust the .NET security model to release an app so soon after the main .NET framework release whose purpose is to let programmers write software with the goal of having their software spread to as many systems as possible...

Sigh.. I wrote a big rant about this article but then I wanted to create a category to put it in.. when I clicked on "New" to create the category, it took me to another page - when I clicked Back, my text was gone. Doh!
What my rant boiled down to is this: While Windows may be modular, that doesn't mean that removing components of it will have no impact. Software developers need a stable OS upon which to build reliable software. If you remove pieces of the OS that my software depends on, my software will break.
Best analogy I've seen, and I can't remember where I saw it, is to compare software with any other real item that's made up of a collection of smaller pieces. My car has a lot of "components" (like the engine or the tires) that I can take out and replace.. But that doesn't mean GM should be forced to make cars available without tires..

You know, just looking at some of the links on this page (the list of recently updated weblogs) makes me realize how crappy mine looks. Problem is, I'll probably never have time to make it look nice. Oh well.

I wonder if there's any way to get the Category to show up next to the entries I'm writing..

Clan Death Fist has long had a minor presence in the Misty Thicket, preying on the Halfling farmers and tradesmen. Recently the Death Fist Clans numbers in the thicket have increased and the Orcs are cutting down trees and mining the rock of the nearby mountains. Reports have come in to Rivervale that the Orcs are shipping the lumber and ore to the commonlands and stockpiling it for an unknown purpose. Whatever the Deathfists agenda, their increased presence has made the thicket a more dangerous place beyond the protective wall.
Sounds like something's up in Misty Thicket...

Hmm. Sony's bringing Everquest to the PS2 but not (at least not announced) to the XBox. I imagine the folks higher up in Sony have been pretty annoyed that their game couldn't be played on their console...
Doing an XBox version would have been so much easier - it doesn't quite have the required RAM but it's got the hard disk, so they could fake it with paging... I guess I can still hold out hope that they'll port Adventures to the XBox, but I'm not going to give up on my level 52 wiz quite so easily anyway.

Thought I'd mention I'm playing Dungeon Siege, and having a lot of fun with it. It's very much a Diablo ripoff, but the graphics and sound are so good that I'm into it. It's very cool having intelligent pathing as well - you're on the top floor of a house, you click on some ground outside the house, and your party finds it's way out of the house (even down three flights of stairs) and to the spot you clicked on.
It's about time 3D games figured out how to get pathing right.. EverQuest certainly never did.
