Balloonist Lands Safely in Australian Outback."U.S. balloonist Steve Fossett came back to earth with a thud Thursday, ending his record-breaking solo flight around the globe in a dusty riverbed on a huge Australian cattle station.

"Fossett's fourth attempt in 1998 almost killed him when his balloon was torn to shreds by lightning and plummeted 29,000 feet into the Coral Sea off Australia. He only survived by cutting off fuel tanks to lighten his balloon and laying on his back in his tiny capsule. His fifth flight in 2001 was forced down by storms in Brazil and his gondola dragged for a mile with Fossett being tossed around inside."

Slashdot: Craig Silverstein answers your Google questions. "Actually, the innovation is driven neither by hardware or software, but by products. We look around and say, "What would be the next great product to have?" and then figure out what software and hardware we need to make that product work and work great. If that figuring goes along the lines of, "Oh, it shouldn't take more than two weeks to get the code ready for public use, so that should give us plenty of time to get the 2000 new machines we'll need ordered, delivered, and installed" -- well, that's the kind of environment in which innovation flourishes at Google.

"When you and a co-worker discuss an idea in a conference room, that pretty much limits the communication potential to just you two; when you discuss it over a game of pool, soon half the company has wandered by and had the opportunity to comment."

James Snell: "Hmm, I still say that SOAP::Lite and PocketSOAP (in that order) are hands down the two best SOAP implementations available today. Due simply because of their simplicity and quality. The fact that both are written by 1-man-development-teams is a fact not to be missed." Thanks James. I wish I could do for SOAP community as much as Simon.
