Jake Savin: "To make staff weblogs really fly, there has to be a quicker turnaround than would be possible if the editors have to approve every word. It just won't fly. The publication has to trust their writers to exercise their own better judgement." Perhaps companies should do the same for their employees. Just yesterday I had an argument about it. Is it practical/feasible/honest to filter all content employees produce? Can't our bosses simply trust our judgement?

Jake Savin: Subscribed. Perhaps you can help me then ;). I use Jeff Cheney's Recently Read RSS Channels script. Here is my copy (I have it in my Macros/ directory). When I call it from my template as this <%myRecentlyReadRSS (12, "<p class=\"realsmall">", "</p>")%>, all I get is [Macro error: Can't call the script because the name "myRecentlyReadRSS" hasn't been defined]. What am I doing wrong?

Learn Jazz Piano: Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise. "Sometimes I have not written down or played exactly what I said I was going to in the directions. Why? because no matter what, it has to SOUND GOOD to me. What sounds good is always appropriate." First, I can tell the same thing about design and architecture: it has to look good. If it's beautiful -- it's gonna work. Second, trust your instincts. Software development is (still) much more about fun and game than about science and engineering. And wait, here is more... "Solo piano is a matter of personal taste. I can give you all the information in the world, but it won't matter until you try stuff and practice. Try stuff and practice. That could be our mantra." Right. Try and fail. Often. Develop your personal taste. Slowly, but inevitably.

Economist: Should old media embrace blogging? "Blogging has taken off thanks to the development of online tools, such as Blogger and UserLand, which make it simple and cheap to update personal web content instantly." [Scripting News]
