Blunt Force Trauma: In the Same Room Does Not Mean on the Same Page. "I can tell you that when 27 people walk out that door to go their 27 separate ways, they hold 27 different ideas about what they heard, what it means, and what they should do about it." And even if they agree that they ARE on the same page, it doesn't really mean that they ARE on the same page, because the real understanding of what "the same page" means is different for all of them. Sometimes completely different. Jumping communications gaps. Excellent article based on Agile Software Development by Alistair Cockburn.

Perl Foundation Announced Availability of Perl 5.8. "It features better support for cutting-edge computing platforms, unrivaled ability to deal with international character sets and numerous new modules and performance enhancements. In addition, the Perl community's new QA systems enhance Perl's existing reputation as a world-beating development tool with enterprise-class robustness, a reputation that has seen it included in the default installs of Apple's Mac OS X and Sun's Solaris 9. Improvements include overhauled 64 bit support, enhanced Unicode awareness, better large number support, improved threading, regular expressions and IO and some 3000 uploads to the CPAN."

PhotoAstronomers Say Asteroid Won't Hit Earth. "A giant asteroid that astronomers initially thought could crash into the Earth in about 17 years will instead pass harmlessly by, scientists at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory said." My 6-year old son wrote to me when he heard about the asteroid: "it's too scary looking to me ;(. I know, it's a long time; but the closer the time the more worries..." No need to worry, honey.
