I need a car... Too bad this is on the wrong side of the country.

Good news: I think I finally fixed my headphones.
Bad news: I got superglue on my index finger and thumb. Luckily they aren't glued together, but...

No Easy Fixes Are Seen to Curb Sex-Site Access. One of the most thorough reports ever produced on protecting children from Internet pornography has concluded that neither tougher laws nor new technology alone can solve the problem. By John Schwartz. [New York Times: Technology]
Paraphrase from this site:
Dilbert: I want to create a "new technology to prevent kids from seeing smut on the Internet" Dogbert: "So, you're pitting your intelligence against the collective sex drive of all the teenagers who own computers?" Dilbert: "What is your point?" Dogbert: "Did you know that if you put a little hat on a snowball it can last a long time in hell?""

The first public draft of JSR 109 is available: Implementing Enterprise Web Services -- [Guido Casper's Radio Weblog]
I guess it's just for J2EE and that's the problem. If they want Java to keep up with .NET, they need it in the standard edition and fast. Pretty soon, there will be some .NET web service solution which won't require IIS (I think MSDN had one by accident for a day or two before pulling it); Java needs one that doesn't require J2EE. (The JAX-RPC Spec is available for review, too.)
Java just doesn't have a compelling story for web services. (One that I've heard about, at least.)

And Michael Winterbottom's forthcoming film, "24-Hour Party People," is set in the milieu surrounding the Manchester record label Factory and its punk-rock bands Joy Division and Happy Mondays. -- The 70's Are So 90's. The 80's Are The Thing Now.
So, I read that, and I started to get angry, because I would argue that:
- Joy Division is not an 80's band: Closer was recorded March 18-30 1980 and their last gig was May 2 1980.
- Joy Division is fundamentally a post-punk band; in the liner notes to A Means to an End, Tony Wilson quotes Bernard Sumner as saying something like, "Punk was all about F--- you! Joy Division was the first band to come along and say I'm f---ed."
- 24-Hour Party People was already released in the UK, allegedly there's a July release date for the US (if not, I'll just have to import the DVD, just like usual)
And then I realized, I am the Comic Book Guy of New Order/Joy Division: totally obsessed with something I should just enjoy.
Anyway, back to my CD and thesis.

I just figured out that you can do multiple-command entries on the NT command line: C:\john\thesis>( More? make clean More? make More? upload More? )
Is this documented anywhere? Has anyone else heard of this? (Comment please!)
I wish I had found this a while ago.
New thesis build, if anyone's interested. I made all the pseudocode algorithmic-style and whatnot.
