So many folks in IT are really the rearguard of the traditional control culture. There need for control never ceases to amaze me. Does this come from the leagacy of the mainframe?
At Wood Gundy, we finally recognized that their world was processing and we outsourced them. The mainframeers lost all organizational power.
This meant that we could create a PC culture where a risk managment tool could be roughed out in a day. With the IT boys in charge everything was 5 years and 50 million. Now we could have it "our way" in a day.
So long at the IT boys have power, they cannot help themselves but block progress that they cannot control
