Financially strapped SPCA sells dog cemetery CA If Dr. Charles Edward Graves, a philanthropic veterinarian, knew that the land he donated in 1938 for an SPCA cemetery was sold, he would never have donated the land. "I find it almost unholy to unearth the remains of the animals they are supposed to love and protect, all for the sake of the almighty dollar," said [Ron] Graves, his grandson. The Santa Cruz SPCA made a cool $350-400,000 on the sale. Now someone will have to dig up over 300 pet graves and move them, probably for incineration and final resting place in a mass grave...
"The SPCA owes local governments in Santa Cruz County anywhere from $228,000 to $750,000, according to the audit. Some of that money, auditors found, was spent by former SPCA officials on a leased Audi, lodging at the Bellagio in Las Vegas and shopping sprees at Saks Fifth Avenue..." [San Francisco Chronicle]

Hot dog detector saves trapped dogs in cars A potentially life saving device, originally designed for K-9 police squad cars, is available for owners who wish to safeguard their dog(s) lives when trapped in cars on hot days. Policemen on patrol, who occasionally
must leave their K-9 partners in their cars, need to know when the car has become life-threateningly hot (the detector also rolls the windows down); Now, for $328, you too can purchase a 'hotdog detector' and find out what your common sense should have dictated: don't leave your dog in a hot (even 70 degree) car... Dogs: In the lap of luxury UK "Western civilisation may be crumbling at the edges, but our pets have never had it so good. They have more money spent on them ? and more legal rights ? than ever before. In fact, says Robert Hanks, some of them may now be even better off than their human owners..." Hank's outrageous stories may demonstrate how society's attitudes have shifted when it comes to pets (to almost ludicrous bounds of pampering), but he'll never convince me that our pets are better off than humans. No, our pets are always at the mercy of their human owners, whose actions often reveal a
cruel and callous nature. [

Animal Rights vs. Humans UK "Hearing screams .. Mr Day rushed to find his 14-week-old baby son, Louis, being attacked by a fox which had dug its teeth into the baby’s temple and forehead, and was in the process of dragging him outside to devour him..." Later, when he notified the RSPCA of his decision to kill the fox, they threatened him with charges of animal cruelty. [

In the US, a backlash is building against dog owners who insist their dog(s) remain off leash on beaches or
parks near where babies frolic with their families. When
unleashed dogs attack, the victims are usually children.
