BARF Diet gaining support RI The raw dog food diet, BARF,  has many supporters who claim it rejuvenated their dogs, eliminated arthritis and other ailments. The American Veterinary Medical Association warns of dangerous risks associated with the raw meat diet:

"... infectious organisms, bacteria, parasites... Broken teeth, gastrointestinal upsets and even something called small intestinal obstructions..."  [WJAR]

Dog cooks to death in car while owner attends concert NY The man who left the dog in the car had been warned by animal control not to do so...

The dog -- who had left claw marks in the window condensation and was covered in her own vomit, feces and urine -- still was breathing when police said they found her in a car.... It's almost summer... but in a car, even in 67 degree weather, a dog may die from extreme heat exhaustion. Cars effectively convect heat into their interiors and retain it; dogs cannot tolerate overheating because they do not perspire as people do. Dogs normally perspire via their feet pads and their tongues... A dog can suffer brain damage in minutes... if left in a hot car...

Well, his owners got evicted from their condo anyway.... but now Pookie can ride in the same passenger row when they fly the friendly skies... Depressed couple loses dog fight 'Judge overturns $18,000 decision in discrimination suit.' Pookie, the dog, got her owners evicted from their condo... they got depressed, sued the condo association and lost their lawsuit. Maybe Pookie can cheer them up...  [San Francisco Gate, March 2003]
