The Ark is sinking ... help save 'The Ark' MD When I first discovered The Ark,  the Humane Society's retail pet supply and grooming store, I knew it was a dream come true: a pet and retail supply store, with a groomer, and the friendliest staff on earth, a place where you could shop for your pets and benefit the Montgomery County Humane Society, all at the same time.

The Ark is closing for good at the end of January, 2004. Supporters of the Montgomery County Humane Society and pet owners who shop at the Ark are heartbroken. The dedicated and knowledgeable staff is saddened too. All of the Ark's profits go to helping rehome pets, treating homeless animals, providing veterinary and foster care, educating pet owners, running the Mobile Adoption Unit and helping pets of low-income families stay healthy. These services will no longer receive funding from the Ark when it disappears.

You can still shop at The Ark and receive grooming for your pets: 240-453-0624

Until the Ark closes it doors, all supplies are on sale! At 10-50% off, you can purchase leashes, crates, bowls, gourmet and organic dog food, regular food, treats, toys, grooming supplies and more. The Ark has a fantastic selection (dwindling fast, so hurry in).

The Ark: 601 S. Stonestreet Ave.

Our dogs will miss their favorite groomer and the expert, kind grooming she provided. I will miss the knowledgeable staff and their expert advice. My pets won't have the best of care anymore... it was too good to be true.

I wish there was something we could do to keep the Ark open. Montgomery County government supplies funds to the Montgomery County Humane Society which owns and operates the Ark as entirely nonprofit. Our county was especially hit hard financially when we had the sniper case last Fall. This may be just another casualty of the sniper rampage, which has left its scars all over our county.

Does anyone know what we can do to save the Ark? I hate to see it sink.
