I just put on some Ron Sexsmith, which feels like having an old friend
in for a visit, even though this CD is new to me. I wish I knew music,
or his specific musical journey, well enough to understand the
coversation as if he were telling me about his three years in Ecuador,
or his loves since we last met.
Tonight, driving home, I had one of those incredibly satisfying driving
moments that make all the other bonehead moves I've witnessed on the
roads worthwhile, like that one perfectly hit golf ball that makes all
those quintuple bogeys fade from memory. At Kingshighway and
McKree, as I'm looking at the cop sitting right next to me, wondering
if he's noticed the drunk driver who is turning left, probably to avoid
the cop, the light turns green. Just to be extra cautious, I wait for
an extra second and see a brown Crown Victoria come barreling down the
hill, into the left turn lane, cut in front of me and speed on by. The
cop almost looks too puzzled to move, as I was, but casually
accelerates and turns his lights on. It was sublime. I don't know if
they think I'm weird for doing it, but I thank cops whenever I get a
chance for pulling folks over as they speed down Arsenal.
We talked a little tonight at Teresa's party about doing taxpayer
choice taxes, and I would definitely vote some of my dollars for
specific bonuses for legitimate speeding tickets delivered in my
neighborhood.
One of the things that just dawned on me about the corporate structure,
and how corporations are effectively doubly taxed when they give out
dividends, is that they SHOULD be. If corporations were to fully
fulfill what we as citizens began to charter them for in the first
place, the original intent, if not outcome, of corporations.
When I think about the propogation of money as an entity, as an
organism, a meme, it amazes me at how successful a virus it is. I just
can't understand how it plans to survive if we end up destroying
ourselves in its pursuit. Or if money and gold are somehow a test by
the planet about whether or not we get voted off the planet.
