A very special kind of insanity:

Englishwoman Sets a Sailing Record. Ellen MacArthur endured stormy seas, 65-mile-an-hour winds, a broken sail, burns, bruises and exhaustion. The payoff was a solo around-the-world sailing record. By By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS. [NYT > Home Page]

Don't get me wrong; I used to sail, and I used to race, long distance ocean racing. But I absolutely could not get interested in sailing alone around the world. MacArthur did it in 71 days: 10 weeks alone, wet and cold and sleep-deprived. Congratulations to her.
