U.S. News and World Report--not
usually known for cutting-edge discoveries--has a special report in
their March 14, 2005 issue, entitled "Taming Your Tech." The stunning
conclusion to all problems techie: usability and design are essential.
Attention to what users need, instead of what engineers think is cool,
makes for better products. Apple gets high marks. Don Norman is quoted.
Score one more for the value of user-centered design. Now, when are they going to explain outside-in design to us?
