Sure to be appealed:
Funny thing about today's overpaid CEO's: they cry about needing
megabucks to compensate them for the tremendous risks of running big
companies, but when it comes to accepting the consequences of bad
decisions they get all whiny. Come on, folks: you got the big bucks
because there's always the risk of going to prison for doing something
really dumb.

I've read much of Alan Lightman's previous works, including Einstein's Dreams and The Diagnosis. I'm looking forward to reading his new collection of essays:
It's right there on the top of my to-be-read stack, next to M.G. Lord's Astro Turf,
an examination of life at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) and its
impact on employees' families. My dad worked there, right out of
college at Caltech, way back when they were developing and testing
missiles for the Army under the guidance of Werner von Braun. Possibly
apocryphal story: it was called Jet Propulsion Laboratory because it
was thought that if the neighbors (it's in Pasadena) knew the engineers
were building and testing rockets they might get worried.
