There's not much of interest on television this year. "Arrested Development" is still great, especially the walking on water bit in last night's show, but Fox is about to kill the show. "Scrubs" hasn't even been on yet this season, pre-empted by garbage. "Desperate Housewives" seems off a bit from last season's delicious weirdness. "Veronica Mars" is cool, but has left a few too many mysteries unaddressed. The season's star is "My Name is Earl," which makes me laugh every Tuesday night. Unfortunately, "Earl" is followed by a real loser: "The Office." Every time I make the mistake of watching "The Office," I see Steve Carell's character and think to myself, "You know, this obnoxious, boorish, clueless character was played to perfection long, long ago by John Cleese as Basil Fawlty in 'Fawlty Towers.' No one will ever play him better, so don't even try."

Lost 13th episode of Fawlty Towers. Cory Doctorow: Kim sez, "This is an interview with a Swedish author, literary critic and classical muscian Lars Holger Holm about his book, Fawlty Towers - A Worshipper's Companion The book is incredibly researched and full of crazy stuff -- including the story about how Holm saw the never-broadcast 13th episdoe of Fawlty Towers in 1999, and he even includes he script for 'The Robbers' in the book. Cleese has seen the book and given it his blessing. The book is not available in the U.S., but arrangements were made with the Swedish publisher to have a limited number shipped here for PBS stations to offer as pledge thank-you gifts around 'Fawlty Towers Revisited.'". . . Link (Thanks, Kim!) [Boing Boing]

Cleese said in "Fawlty Towers Revisited" that he realized after 12 episodes (or 13. . .) that they had done it all, done everything they could with those characters in that setting. Nothing more to be done, the end.

Done to perfection, never to be done better.
