It's somewhat entertaining to watch Oracle digest PeopleSoft from my vantage point:

Former PeopleSoft users want IBM support in Oracle's Fusion. IBM's hardware and software should be an integral part of Oracle's Fusion best-of-breed application suite, according to a survey of former PeopleSoft customers by the Quest user group. [Computerworld News]

Meanwhile, SAP is working with both Microsoft and IBM to optimize their databases for SAP's applications.

Another curious post: Google vs. Yahoo as academics vs. practitioners?
There[base ']s an interesting story in here somewhere about how Yahoo! is hiring/buying the [base "]alpha geeks[per thou] (hackers, tinkerers, accidental entrepreneurs) and Google seemingly isn[base ']t (Ph.Ds, computer scientists) and what effect that could have on each company[base ']s development.

Sounds a bit like the DUX vs CHI controversies. There may be nothing to it, and after all, CHI is working at  being more inclusive of the practitioners while DUX is part SIGCHI. But if you stuff one company with theorists and another with pragmatists, I wouldn't bet on the theorists.
