Kevin at OK/Cancel runs down some of the many inviting conferences over the next twelve months. . .
2006 Conferences. Rather than talk about predictions, which I[base ']m poor at, or the best of 2005, which has been done to death, I thought I[base ']d spend some time talking about things I[base ']m looking forward to. Specifically, it[base ']s about T-minus 1.5 months from conference season. There[base ']s the whirlwind of conferences from February to April, with a smattering in the summer and more in the fall. Each has different offerings for different people. Here[base ']s a list, by no means comprehensive, of some I think are interesting and considering attending . . . [ OK/Cancel] There are several on Kevin's list that I'd sure like to atttend, but probably not this year. I will almost certainly be at CHI, especially if I'm elected VP of Finance (watch for your ballots, SIGCHI members!). Maybe STC (Vegas!). Likely UPA (I promised new President Thyra Rauch that I'd lend some support). There's no DUX this year. I'd love to do IA Summit, but I'd really be pushing things at work to attend more than two or three conferences in the spring. So many conferences, so little time, money, vacation . . .
Also: take a look at Upcoming.org (another recent Yahoo acquisition) for an interesting new way of tracking conferences and other events. The interaction is still rather clunky (editing the URL to search by tag?!!), but it has potential. See, for instance, the page of events in the experiencedesign group.
