"Adventure is just bad planning."
Roald Amundsen. [Quotes of the Day] Which is just the attitude that got Amundsen to the South Pole first, and got him and his men back safely. In contrast to Scott. More planning, less adventure.

Yes, I got my PowerBook back a week ago, with a brand new 100GB hard drive in it, for about $360 parts and labor. Much less than buying a new MacBook, or even a refurbished PowerBook (my more probable choice. It's happy, and I'm happier (but never entirely happy; the iPod remains dead as a doornail). Now I'm carefully loading only the applications that I actually use onto the laptop, plus only the documents that I need, and then regularly syncing up with the iMac using ChronoSync to keep the latest greatest up-to-date in both locations. And backing up to a nice Seagate 500GB external drive. And crossing my fingers. You never know when it's the backup drive that goes bad: the Seagate replaces a 160GB LaCie drive that went kaput for no discernible reason other than random perversity.
BTW, ChronoSync is astoundingly fast; I keep wondering what's missing, but haven't found a defect yet. Crossing fingers again. . .
