After 2+ years of writing articles for ACM that were intended to be somewhat provocative and challenging, it takes one curmudgeonly rant in UPA Voice to get some reactions. My piece in the February issue of UPA's monthly online publication has garnered two emails and an article in response. Too bad my manager didn't like it so much. . . Fortunately, author Caroline Hayes, a professor of human factors and ergonomics, not only agrees with my suggestions for educating developers, she takes the idea several steps further. Good work, Caroline!

Some days it's just better to know that someone, even one special person, understands, than to beat one's head against the wall over the misunderstanding multitude.
Jenny gets her knickers in a knot, for me! (Now, how long before someone misinterprets that sentence?):
The topic that wouldn[base ']t die - Fred Sampson[base ']s Radio Blog
*heavy sigh*
Topic that wouldn[base ']t die, indeed[sigma].more like, it[base ']s the gross misunderstanding that refuses to die. . . So, yeah, talking about tech writing is boring. Because actually doing it is much more fun and a hell of a lot more productive. Good, I'm glad we vented about that; I'm over it, really. At this point, I'm just glad I could provide the spark for some conversations. I'm sure someone got something useful out of it.
