So Kim, my beloved and betrothed and bewed for the last 12+ years hands me the phone this afternoon:
Hello? Pastor Warner? I'm Jeff from Issues, Etc. in St. Louis. Our office recently ran across your essay "Gone, But Not Forgotten..." and were very impressed with what you had written. Would you be willing to do an on-air live hour-long interview with us about the content of your essay?
Insert your appropriate prolonged moment of silence here....
Umm, yes. I suppose I would.
GREAT! Are you free tomorrow afternoon?
'No! Tomorrow afternoon is full. In fact, this week is already quite full. Anytime next week?'
How about Tuesday, September 3rd, at 4:30pm? Sound OK with you?
That'll do. Thanks for your call.
[insert appropriate CLICK and dumbfounded silence on my part.]
And then I think to myself: "Gah, NEVER ONCE while I was sitting in front of my keyboard working out my essay and typing it up did I EVER imagine some radio station program with 100+ other syndicated subscribers nationwide might in the farthest reaches of my feeble imagination one day call me up and ask me to talk about it live on air...."
For those of you with any sense or appreciation of history, an additionally strange but true fact: KFU0 happens to be the very first Christian Radio station in the US. Been around for a very long time, to my recollection over 150+ years. Odd to think that our LCMS is in a very unusual and convoluted and almost tangential way possibly responsible for all the broadcast media crap that exists bearing the name of Jesus in all of the United States, and indeed, the world. Pioneers of the media, our little LCMS was.
We broke the media ground. Many have come along since planting plentiful weeds among fairly good, reasonable seeds...
At least it's just radio. :-D
