I just got back from the Minnesota DNR large lakes meeting. My new project is to build a database application for the large lake specialists to store their fisheries data. I had to give a presentation there about why a central database is a good thing. My first two duties are:
1) Visit every large lake managed by the DNR and go out on a survey with the staff.
Vermillion, Lake of the Woods, Pepin, Leech, Winnibigoshish, Cass, Upper Red
Kabetogama, Mille Lacs, Rainy and Superior
2) Receive files in every conceivable format (dbase, lotus, word, excel, quatro pro, filemaker pro, MS Access) and mash them into Oracle tables.
I learned a ton about the large lakes: Right now, Mille Lacs is experiencing some of the best Walleye fishing in decades. Go, drop what ever you are doing and go there. You are guaranteed to catch fish.
