Kate and I saw Road to Perdition tonight. It didn't suck. I won't say it was great. As Kate said, there were no gaping holes and that was refreshing. (And no, we haven't been renting those kind of movies...). I thought Paul Newman did a great job. The visit to Prohibition era Chicago was a treat. It really made me feel like I was in a bustling, glamorous crime-ridden place. The movie totally succeeded in being about a father and son relationships and I really appreciated that and that is why I would recommend it. However, I would have liked the gangster plot that was going on in the foreground to have more meaning because they put a ton of work into that in terms of costumes and mood and characters, but failed to make a punchy convincing plot that wove together all those tough characters.
