We took the kids to the Freakwater concert in Loring Park last night. The woman from the Mekons joined them for one song. The kids ran wild in the crowd, approaching each blanket for attention. Appreciating children is one of the membership prerequisites of the alt-country crowd so I didn't protect anyone from them. Freakwater was extremely mellow and slow, sitting down in chairs and chatting amongst themselves in between songs. Their voices sounded nice, but they were too mellow to hold my attention for long. One thing I liked was that Old Navy, the sponsors of the event, got on the mike and yelled, "everyone stand up who wants to win 50 bucks!!!!" and no one stood up. Then they played this big game of musical balls for a 50 dollar gift certificate and I would say that 70% of the audience totally ignored this game and lay on the grass talking. 6:13:38 PM    comment []
