I went fishing with Matt at Afton State Park yesterday morning. We caught nothing but tans. No nibbles. We got there at about 7:00. I was using spinner bait and crankbait and trying to cast parallel to the shore. Matt lost like 5 lures into the trees and water. We saw lots of big fish leaping out of the water out in the middle of the river, so next time we will try to get a canoe. The St. Croix River is referred to as Lake St. Croix between Stillwater and Hastings. There are supposedly tons of bass, walleye, sauger and perch there.
On our walk back to the car, we saw some large dark fish hanging out in a backwater pool. I figure these were carp. We tried fishing for them, but I don't really know how to fish for carp and we pretty much chased them away.
