GIs demanding to be sent home after WWII

Click For Larger Image. This is a full page spread from the US Camera book I have. I am fascinated by this because it shows a history I never knew existed, because it shows the lurches and false starts at demobilization and shows how tenuous the support was for a huge, globally deployed non-volunteer army at that time. My impression was that the fighting stopped, and most people went home while the rest happily patrolled the world and prepared for the cold war.

Chloropicrin, a type of tear gas, was used as a chemical weapon during World War I.   It was also used as an anti-theft device on safes starting in 1920 until the 1950's.

"The number of these devices sold or still in circulation is unknown".

Every so often someone discovers another one.... the hard way.
