We want to preserve your dignity. Get the winch.

The Southwest EMS in Arizona has three bariatric ambulances with motorized pulleys "to preserve the dignity of obese patients"   (from jwz)

For some reason, this reminds me of the time I toured historical ships in Boston Harbour.  The beds and doorways were very small because people in the 1600's were much shorter on average than we are.  I think this is partly due to nutrition.

In 100 years, todays furniture will be displayed in a museum with a sign saying, "of course, any modern adult would crush one of these to splinters because our nutrition today is so much better.

One of them is in Pima county, which reminds me of an article I read in the New Yorker about the Pima indians being genetically prone to obesity.

The first record I ever purchased was Queen's News of the World.

I wasn't able to listen to it the evening I bought it, so early the next morning I crept downstairs and put We Will Rock You on my father's stereo.
Boom Boom Chcxxx  Boom Boom Chcxxxx  Boom Boom Chcxxxx

My mom woke my dad up and said, "someone is messing with your stereo"
and my dad came running downstairs to see about it.  He looked at the record player and calmed down when he saw that there was actually a record on it and I hadn't just placed the needle on the blank turntable and turned it on to see what would happen.

It had a giant robot on the front that was killing people.  I studied that picture trying to find some meaning in it or relate it to any of the songs on the album.  After about a year, I came to the conclusion that it was just a crappy picture.

I memorized "We Will Rock You" and "We are the Champions".
That has served me well in various sporting events I attended in the last 25 years.

I was too freaked out by Get Down Make Love to even listen to it.
It conjured up images of a bunch of hairy people writhing around on the floor

The other song I remember was Sheer Heart Attack.  (Reeeeaaal Cardiac!)

As a kid I was looking to this album for depth and meaning, really striving to connect all the dots and find a message, when actually it was this incredibly shallow and thoughtless effort, a sham.  Maybe that is why they named the record "News of the World" !  They were saying, "Hey kid, the news of the world is that everything is a sham, including the record you just bought".
