SÃO PAULO, BRAZIL (CINEMA MINIMA) — THE MUSIC OF JOHANNES ŒLSNER shows the musician who was, for 37 years, member of the first Municipal String Quartet of the city of São Paulo, Brazil. This first organization influenced all other, similar orchestras of its time! This curious story, centered in the figure of Œlsner, the only integrant surviving founder of the Quartet, was directed by Ugo Giorgetti. The film recounts the life of Johannes Oelsner: born in Germany, he arrived in Brazil in 1939. He had played viola with the Fritzsche Quartet in Dresden. When the war started, the Quartet was in Brazil. Œlsner would never again leave. Among the reasons for his affection for the country: a marriage of more than 50 years with a Brazilian woman, and friendships with the great Brazilian intellectuals, including Mário de Andrade and Villa Lobos. Simple and pleasant, the film shows Œlsner listening with interest, echoing the dignity of his life. The set of documents interweaves history with episodes, photographs and documents. The musician is still active: he gives lessons in the city of Osasco and performs at weddings. Essa primeira formação tocou com os mesmos integrantes durante todo o período! Esta curiosa história, centrada na figura de Œlsner, o único integrante vivo do Quarteto, tem direção de Ugo Giorgetti. O filme conta a vida de Johannes Œlsner. Nascido na Alemanha, em 1975, ele chegou ao Brasil em 1939. Tocava viola com o Quarteto Fritzsche, de Dresden. Quando a guerra começou, o Quarteto ficou no país. Œlsner nunca mais sairia do Brasil. Uma das razões de seu carinho pelo país: o casamento de mais de 50 anos com uma brasileira e as amizades com os maiores intelectuais brasileiros, entre eles Mário de Andrade e Villa Lobos. Simples e agradável, o filme escuta Œlsner com interesse, fazendo eco à dignidade de sua vida. O documentário intercala histórias com cenas de época, fotografias e documentos.
