Lunar Eclipse
Lovely lunar preview of Wednesday night show. A total lunar eclipse--spooky and beautiful--can be seen this Wednesday night from Maine to Alaska.  For a preview of what it will look  like from your state, check out the beautiful animations online.

East-coasters like me will see the moon high in the sky and late at night. I sampled some states farther west and watched their moon rise from a simulated horizon, then go through its changes not far above (or past) sunset.

Thanks to Larry Koehn (does that rhyme with "moon"?) for the art, and to Tara Calishain of ResearchBuzz for the lunar link.

Orlando Sentinel Endorses Kerry
Endorsement: Kerry for President. Endorsement: Kerry for President Ok. The NY Times endorsed Kerry. And now the Washington Post. But now the Orlando-Sentinel, a paper that has not endorsed a Demcorat in the past 40 years!

"Four years ago, the Orlando Sentinel endorsed Republican George W. Bush for president based on our trust in him to unite America. We expected him to forge bipartisan solutions to problems while keeping this nation secure and fiscally sound.

This president has utterly failed to fulfill our expectations. We turn now to his Democratic challenger, Sen. John Kerry, with the belief that he is more likely to meet the hopes we once held for Mr. Bush.

Our choice was not dictated by partisanship. Already this election season, the Sentinel has endorsed Republican Mel Martinez for the U.S. Senate and four U.S. House Republicans. In 2002, we backed Republican Gov. Jeb Bush for re-election, repeating our endorsement of four years earlier. Indeed, it has been 40 years since the Sentinel endorsed a Democrat -- Lyndon Johnson -- for president...." [MetaFilter]

Political Ads: Going to the Dogs
Top-secret leak from Bush camp: the next ad.
NextBushAd: Parody scary Bush ad with wolves and ghouls
"This is so much more fun than those old debates. And Carl says we've got folks believing that I'd make them safer than that big Kerry guy--well, the point is to scare 'em enough so they don't think straight."

Wondering about those hundreds of Republican challengers? They'll be standing outside your voting booth going "How-oooooooooo--lllll"

From John Battelle
Playing With Feedburner. Many of you may recall my comments in the past about RSS and business models, I've brought the topic up a lot over the past few months. More than half of many blogs' traffic comes from RSS, and most of that traffic is blind - we don't know who is reading or why, or how much. Also, unless you stick ad postings onto your site (a practice I'm not really into), none of that traffic sees your sponsors or advertising, should you have any. Net net, not a great business model for serious publishers. Feedburner is an application that promises to change at least some of that. (Dick Costolo, the CEO, had been a prince helping me set it up. He's the guy who co-led... [John Battelle's Searchblog]

Registered voter rolls soar 21% in Arizona. Changes to audio.weblogs.com. Some Sunday morning tweaks to audio.weblogs.com.

  1. At the top of the page, the time now says it's Pacific time. All times on this page are Pacific.

  2. Show the day of week when a post time is not today. Makes it a little easier to read.

  3. Todo: When adding a new feed, only add one item from the feed, not all the items in the feed. Makes adding a new feed a less disruptive event.
