RSS and OpenSearch at A9
OpenSearch at A9.
Jeff Bezos is on stage at ETech right now where he is introducing OpenSearch to the world. OpenSearch is developed by the folks at A9 to facilitate the innovation of vertical search. It allows A9 users to add more columns to their search set to get access to more domain specific search facilities and it allows content providers a single mechanism to deliver search results to aggregators. Vertical search is key in providing a better search experience to users, and A9 is on the forefront of innovating in this area.
OpenSearch is based on some small extensions to RSS to allow pagination through search results. Any producer can use this infrastructure to integrate with search portals and other portals can use this to consume search results.
What I like most about it is that it will bring search innovation (back) into the hands of the individual search developer. Everyone will now be able to integrate with the big search portals and there will be a strong incentive again to revolutionize search areas.
