Chatanooga ---> Maui ---> Phoenix

Another OpinionDubya!

As the national crime in New Orleans enters the spin-phase and our talking heads begin the search for sodden southerners to blame, remember on who's watch this disaster happened.

First Mr. Brown needs to be retired, perhaps to a nice place in Trent Lott's neighborhood where the citizens can come to discuss his errors. Then perhaps we should look upstream to the faux-leaders who appointed yet another unqualified dunce to a position where arrogance can kill thousands.

from the Chatanoogan:

"Is This A National Tipping Point?"

"...Domestic television showed Bush visiting the coast to comfort the people of Biloxi - even hugging some seemingly dazed survivors.

German TV, however, filed a much different report. ZDF news reporter Christine Adelhardt reported the president's visit to be a completely staged event. Their crew witnessed how the open-air food distribution point Bush visited in front of the cameras was hastily set up for his photo-op and then torn down immediately after he and the herd of "news people" had left. And those women Bush hugged for the camera were not even Biloxi locals. Some have even speculated that they were looters who were just individuals wandering in the area that were quickly recruited as props for Bush's faux compassion photo-op. And as we watched the CNN video of loaders and dozers seemingly hard at work to repair the 17th Street levee where Bush was visiting, he told us and the world that progress was flowing - but according to Senator Mary Landrieu, the crew that was working so hard yesterday left and has never come back.

It looks like he was lying to us - again.

The real work to come goes far beyond repairing storm damage. We must repair our democracy. We must restore our national respectability. We must demand the impeachment of this president and root out his many minions before their collective destructiveness completely lays waste our beloved nation. Bush says the coast will be rebuilt bigger and better than before. I wonder if he is talking of million-dollar beach houses whose owners didn't get their feet wet, or those who are still, today trapped in their stifling attics, yearning to breathe free."

No Millionaire Tax Cuts During National Disasters
CALL TO ACTION:

We urge you to take urgent action to stop the U.S. Senate from voting on estate tax repeal in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

A devastating hurricane clobbers the Gulf coast. The war in Iraq claims almost 1,900 American lives with no end in sight in both casualties and cost. And red ink flows through both short and long term federal deficit projections.

Yet in the coming days, Senate leaders plan to vote on permanently abolishing the estate tax, America's only levy on concentrations of inherited wealth.

They want to end the estate tax despite the fact that a new national pollshows that 59% of Americans from all political parties and incomes favor estate tax reform, while only 29% favor repeal -- a 2-1 ratio.

Please contact your Senator TODAY. You can reach your Senator by calling toll free at 1-800-708-9781 or the U.S. Senate Switchboard at 1-202-224-3121, or find their direct phone at: http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm The message is: In the face of Hurricane Katrina, it is shocking and inappropriate that Congress would vote for a trillion dollar tax cut for millionaires and billionaires.

Roadside Relics of the Phoenix Metro Area. Vintage Neon Sign Photography by Jim Hale

"In the late 40s, the booming post-war tourist trade gave Phoenix the title, "Motel Capital of the World." A lot of the signs in this exhibition date to the era, though some are newer 60s vintage signs. Artisans and manufacturers like Young Electric Sign Co., Bud Johnson and Guerrero-Lindsey in Mesa crafted many of these beautiful neon art pieces seen throughout our area."
