one-time hyped .NET My Services postponed again. . . Microsoft is having trouble with their .Net Web Service initiative it would seem. I work with .Net at work and I love it compared to VB6 but I find this interesting that one of the most highly touted features of .Net, Hailstorm, is being postponed again.
And on a related note, has anyone else noticed that the three commercials for .Net, one with a couple picking out a car, one with an old geezer explaing the system to a new young hire and one with a very snooty wine merchant, are now all Microsoft Server Software ads? They were originally .Net ads but that wording has been removed. What does this mean for .Net? I find that interesting. . .yeah I know I'm the only one. . . |
No Longer for Scholars' Eyes Only. And in the "you can read anything you want" vein of the NY Times story below, here's one from the Catholic Church publishing many of their sacred texts, before only accessible by priests and scholars, on the Web for all to see. . .it's quite a day when the Church becomes more open. . . 8:22:23 AM permalink What do you think? New Premise in Science: Get the Word Out Quickly, Online. Great news for geeks like me, hopefully now we can read scientific papers without having to go to the local university library, plus this sounds good for scientists since the Web has to have a greater reach than a subscription to Science. Of course, one could argue that anyone who might understand these papers probably already subscribes to Science and Nature but still, for a geek like me, I like the idea. . . 8:17:35 AM permalink What do you think?
