Video Game Hard Knocks Pain NFL. Hmmmm I have several issues with this all of which have nothing to do with the fact that I just got an XBox for Christmas. . .yeah whatever. . .first of all, there are so many games out there that are exponentially more violent. I don't know how may aliens I killed last night in Halo but one of the most gruesome scenes involved a Marine on my team accidentally running in front of me right as I pulled the trigger. HIS HEAD EXPLODED! Blood everywhere, really bad stuff going on. I killed a good guy. This is some pretty nasty violence. But even more of an issue to me, is the fact that the NFL is rapidly becoming the most violent professional sport out there. With the changes to the rules in hockey this year, fights are way down and the sport is more of a sport, instead of violence on ice chasing a puck. That leaves the NFL as the most violent sport where men are trained from the days they begin to play to try and literally kill their opponent. Granted, any player would never admit to intentionally trying to injure another player but when a defensive end that is 6' 6", 251 pounds and runs a 4.4 40 hits someone full on, bad things are going to happen. Players get paralyzed every year in football. That is because the game is violent. Watch any football game on TV. There is violence inherent in the sport. And the NFL is worried about the effect that a video game has on kids playing it? Are you freaking kidding me? This seems like a thorny issue since if you watch football as an unbiased observer, the violence is obvious. There has to be some pressure coming down from the NFL marketing department. Maybe the problem is that kids playing these games are actually dishing out the violence on their opponents but half these kids probably play football and they do that anyway on the field. The difference is that there, on the field in the heat of battle, it's perfectly ok. I've often wondered about the malcontents of professional football who can't control their anger and rage off the field but that's a story for another day. . .I'm off to play XBox and kill some things. . . 5:35:48 PM permalink What do you think?
