D.C. and NY

1. Lots of good reading and think time---9 + 9 hours of air time and 3 1/2 + 3 1/2 hours of train time.

2. Celebration of abundance by overnighting in NY for the opera at the Met

  • Amtrak business class is the way to travel between D.C. and NY
  • Lunch on the 41st floor of the IBM building in Manhattan with Beate, Investor Relations for CEMEX, discussing the economy
  • Boris Godunov's death scene
  • The eight block walk back to the hotel at midnight through the drifting snow--a beautiful brightly lit night, quiet, friendly people shoveling their walks
  • So sorry my friend was unable to join me
3. A great World Affairs Councils of America conference in D.C. 4. Saturday spent on the Mall 5. Ever so glad I live in Alaska D.C. seems to think they know beyond any shadow of a doubt what is best for the rest of the U.S. and that we should unquestionably accept it and be thankful for it!
