Let's talk about sport for my first substantial post to the Roblog.
Tim Henman. Got knocked out of Wimbledon in the semi-final, for the fourth time in five years. Shame. Seems like every year at this time, the hopes and expectations of an entire nation are loaded onto the slim shoulders of Henman, especially after some other cataclysmic and totally unexpected sporting reverse, such as going out of the Soccer World Cup (1998 and 2002), or the Lions losing their series to the Wallabies after seeming invincible (2001). Seems an awful load for an unassuming, very boring bloke. But the Brits get very passionate about him. Then, when he inevitably loses, they shrug their shoulders, and transfer the load to Colin Montgomerie in the British Open - another perennial loser.
Talking about the World Cup - here's about the most sensible wrap-up of the tournament that I've read. The press really screwed up most of the time. I mean, how wrong can this guy be? (sorry, lost the link, but it was a guy in the Mail & Guardian, before the final, saying that Ronaldo was overrated, unfit, heavy and slow, and wouldn't be a factor in the final!).
