SANCTIONS: San Diego State

SAN DIEGO -- Associated Press reports San Diego State announced a series of self-imposed penalties Monday for violating NCAA rules by holding summer football workouts at a local beach. The school said it will eliminate 21 practice days through the 2004 season, cut six scholarships through 2005, and suspend assistant coach Damon Baldwin for six practice days, including five without pay, during the 2002 fall camp.

ARRESTED: Benny Sapp, Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Associated Press reports Iowa defensive back Benny Sapp was arrested on charges of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public intoxication after police saw him push a woman into a building. The 21-year-old Sapp was charged with three simple misdemeanors and released on his own recognizance from the Johnson County Jail on Sunday.
