Congress has extended the period for filing Temporary Extended Unemployment Compensation Act (TEUC) claims through December 27, 2003. The Department of Workforce Services administers the Unemployment Insurance Program in Utah.

The Temporary Extended Unemployment Compensation Act was set to expire on May 31, 2003 for the filing of new TEUC claims. This extension does not provide additional funds for claimants who have exhausted their TEUC entitlement

Utah Governor Michael O. Leavitt signed HB 19 on March 20, 2003, that provides additional state benefits to individuals who have exhausted or will exhaust their entitlement to TEUC. Initial claims for these benefits can be filed through December 27, 2003.

Randy Hopkins, Chief of Benefits, encourages individuals who have exhausted state unemployment benefits and are unemployed to contact the Claims Center at the following numbers for an eligibility determination. Salt Lake/South Davis Counties, 526-4400; Weber/North Davis Counties, 612-0877; Utah County, 375-4067; and elsewhere in the state and out of state 888-848-0688.
