SALT LAKE CITY - Numerous Independence Day celebrations scheduled along the Wasatch Front will have heavy impacts on the traveling public. The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) encourages all motorists to 'Know Before You Go' with the following road restriction and traffic information for July 4, 2003:

Near Sugarhouse Park:

  • All off-ramps from Interstate 80 to 1300 E. will be closed at 6 p.m.
  • Drivers should plan to exit I-80 at 700 E., where a special northbound through-lane will channel vehicles to 2100 S.
  • Sugarhouse Park will be closed to vehicular traffic at approximately 5 p.m.
  • Stopping or standing on the freeway is illegal, the Utah Highway Patrol will monitor I-80 near Sugarhouse Park and will ticket violators.

USANA Ampitheater (July 3 & 4):

  • The USANA Ampitheater, 6055 W. 5400 S., is the new home of the Red Hot 4th.
  • Areas with the greatest traffic impacts will be 5600 W. between 6400 S. and S.R. 201, 5400 S. between 6055 W. and Bangerter Highway, and 4700 S. between 6400 W. and Bangerter Highway.
  • Traffic will be heaviest between 5:30 and 7:30 p.m., and again from 11 p.m. to midnight, following the fireworks display.

LaVell Edwards Stadium:

  • Expect heavy traffic (similar to BYU football games) two hours before and one hour after Stadium of Fire along the following routes: Interstate 15, University Avenue, University Parkway and Orem 800 N.

Lagoon fireworks:

  • As a matter of public safety, spectators should not attempt to use nearby construction zones as viewing areas.
  • Security personnel will patrol the construction site and will escort trespassers out of the area.
