Woodenshoe FireIn an effort to simplify and consolidate fire-related information, the State of Utah has joined forces with federal land management agencies to develop an interagency fire information website. The website, www.utahfireinfo.gov. was launched today to assist the public with questions about current fires, fire restrictions, fire prevention tips and activities, Utah fire history, agency contacts, and more. It will be updated daily with all agencies submitting information.

"Fire management practices and suppression activities have been conducted on an interagency basis for years,” said Mike Dudley, chair Great Basin Coordinating Group. This website will make it easier for the public to find answers to questions and concerns about specific fires or fire management practices and policies. Additionally, the public will be able to locate agency contacts more easily and link to specific agency websites for more information. We intend to make fire information as complete as possible.”

The Bureau of Land Management, USDA Forest Service, National Park Service, Fish & Wildlife Service, Bureau of Indian Affairs, and State of Utah Forestry, Fire and State Lands are represented on the website. Comments and suggestions on the website are welcomed.

July is National Picnic Month, picnics being an American summer tradition. Families usually have great, memorable times at picnics; they also eat a lot of food, especially high-fat and high sugar foods. There is a huge public and government interest in decreasing obesity in America, especially for children. If parents can set the example of choosing healthier foods more often, including on picnics, the upward trend of obesity will go down. Healthier foods are also helpful in decreasing the risk of heart disease and cancer.
