UDOT recently completed construction on the new Virgin River Arch Bridge in southern Utah. The 175-foot tall bridge spans 390-feet across the Virgin River and sits adjacent to the original bridge, which was built in 1937.
Hurricane native Ersel Hall helped construct the original bridge and was the first person to cross it in 1937. Now, 66 years later, Hall will take the first trip across the new bridge in a restored 1934 Ford Pickup on July 17th.
By November 2004, the original bridge will be renovated and widened and will carry southbound traffic over the Virgin River. The new bridge will carry northbound traffic and will also include a designated pedestrian/bicycle lane.
