The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will hold a public hearing for the environmental studies for 800 N. in Orem. The hearing will be an open-house format from 4 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 14, 2003, at Foothill Elementary School Gymnasium, 912 N. 1240 E., in Orem.
At the meeting, UDOT will present the preferred solutions for two sections of the road. Project team members will make a formal presentation at 5:45 p.m. UDOT encourages residents, business owners to attend the meeting and comment on the proposed alignments.
"We want the public to see the work that has been going on behind the scenes for the past several months and allow them an opportunity to tell us what they think," said UDOT Project Manager, Phil Huff.
The 800 N. environmental study originally began as one project looking at improvements to 800 N. from Geneva Road to U.S. Highway 189 at the mouth of Provo Canyon. Due to funding constraints, the project was divided into two smaller segments where funding could be used more effectively.
The first study segment evaluates moving the intersection of 1200 W. and 800 N. about 450 feet east of the current location. The second study proposes widening 800 N. to six lanes along the north-side of the road beginning at 400 W. and ending at 1100 E. The proposed alignment also includes a landscaped median to limit left-turn movements and improve traffic flow and a landscaped pedestrian trail along the north side of 800 N., which would connect to the Provo River Parkway trail system.
