Imaging Resource examines Optipix, a tool for extending dynamic range of digital camera images. These kinds of tools are necessary because CCD/CMOS sensors do not have the light recording curves that film has, and so they are more likely to result in "blown out" images when the sun is in the picture. Another aspect of dynamic range is most digital cameras only capture 8 bits of information per color (RG&B), whereas with just about any film you can usually find a scanner which can produce glorious 16 bit-per-channel color.

Purpose |
VRlog provides news, developments and analysis of the virtual reality (VR) world from a nature photographer's perspective. Since I am not connected to or funded by any VR vendor, I intend to objectively appraise what's going on, and the direction VR is headed in. -- erik goetze
