Junji Ikeda posted some information on some tools he has developed for fisheye lens photos and cubic VRs. The tools include Fish4CubeX which can make a cubic VR from 2, 3 or 4 fisheye photos; Hotspot maker for Cube, FishFishFish, LaFish MotionVR player, and FishHexCubeX, whiuch can make a cubic VR from 4, 5 or 6 fisheye photos. He has also posted some example VRs made with these tools. Unless it's described in the Japanese language parts of those web pages, no word yet on whether using the two fisheye-to-VR tools in the US would violate IPIX's patent, but I'd guess they would. Junji says the FishHexCubeX tool will be available in early 2003.

Purpose |
VRlog provides news, developments and analysis of the virtual reality (VR) world from a nature photographer's perspective. Since I am not connected to or funded by any VR vendor, I intend to objectively appraise what's going on, and the direction VR is headed in. -- erik goetze
