More reviews of the new high-end DSLRs confirm their place as equal to or better than film SLRs: the Digital Camera Resource Page (DCRP) covers the Canon EOS-1Ds and gives it a thumbs up. Have not heard from anyone shooting VRs with these yet.
Also, Outbackphoto.com files a user experience report with the EOS-1Ds.
