Nikon announces development of D-series digital lenses, from Imaging Resource. D series cameras have a less-than full frame imaging sensor, which means they don't use all of a 35mm lens's imaging circle. This announcement is great news for Nikon DSLR owners, as they won't need to buy an expensive 14mm lens to get 21mm coverage; lenses with a smaller imaging circle should be lighter and less expensive; and it implies a stability to the D series line. The first lens to come out is reportedly a 18-36mm zoom (in 35mm equivalent). Since VR photographers tend to use wide-angle lenses, this should make the Nikon D100, D1x, etc more appealing for VR photography.
