Today, pano-MAXX (a company in Germany) released the new VR-1 panoramic tripodhead.

The VR-1 can accept almost all digital cameras and wide-angle converters with focal lengths from 7-45mm. The VR-1 consists of an adjustable bracket and a rotating head and adjustable "Click-Stop" system with stops at 22.5, 30, 36 or 45 degrees.

The open source release of Frontier happened today. I recall buying Userland Frontier 1.0 as a Mac scripting tool when it came out in 1991 on a few diskettes. I remember comparing it with AppleScript and deciding Frontier looked like it was easier to program and more powerful. I used it to automate various tasks, and thereby deferred my learning AppleScript for a few years. Frontier has evolved tremendously since then, becoming a multi-platform web content management framework that is the foundation for products like Manila and UserLand Radio. I'm not sure that does it justice, but it is a powerful tool, and now it's available under the GPL for anyone with a PC or Mac to try out.

PM update: I learned after poking around that today's release includes the basic Frontier functionality, but not mainResponder, the codebase for the webserver piece, or prefs.root, the user personalization/membership codebase. Dave Winer says that mainResponder will be released under the same GPL license as the Frontier "kernel."

Top photographers condemn digital age: ""Terry O'Neill, one of the world's most published photographers, has condemned the rapid spread of digital cameras for wrecking the art of taking pictures. He believes digital cameras are only fit for "amateurs and paparazzi", and that the technology is turning all pictures into "snapshots"."

Purpose
VRlog provides news, developments and analysis of the virtual reality (VR) world from a nature photographer's perspective. Since I am not connected to or funded by any VR vendor, I intend to objectively appraise what's going on, and the direction VR is headed in. -- erik goetze
