"It wasn't my fault"
A British singer, Nicole Appleton, has written about her decision to have an abortion in her autobiography. Perhaps predictably, she disclaims any personal responsibility:
"The former All Saint said in her autobiography that she was 'forced to' abort the baby after record bosses said it would be bad for All Saints' image.
"The singer recalls how she wept after the operation and how the whole affair left her emotionally wrecked."

What is the opposite of Schadenfreude?
We have appropriated this German word to describe the sense of pleasure derived from the misfortunes of others. Why haven't we created or adapted a term to describe the opposite feeling -- enjoyment or happiness about the good fortunes or, better, the earned achievements of others?
A colleague from years ago is about to receive a great honor, the culmination of years of excellent work in his field. He has truly earned it, and I am very happy for him.

Tiny PC
The Cappuccino has a footprint barely larger than its CD or DVD drive, and is about six inches high. Cost -- about a thousand bucks, somewhat more for the version with DVD-ROM drive. This is a Firewire-enabled PC.
