Singing the blues. . .

is Stan Jones, Montana's Libertarian candidate for Senate.

Says he: "People ask me if it's permanent and if I'm dead."

If they have to ask, he's in trouble.

New Jersey

I, for one, expect that the U.S. Supreme Court will decline the invitation to intervene in the New Jersey mess, even though I believe that it would find the N. J. Supreme Court had no authority to issue the ruling it did.  SCOTUS will probably not subject itself to another round of criticism for becoming involved in state political issues.  More importantly, the stakes are much smaller.  Even though "the balance of power in the Senate" might be affected (but don't forget there are many other significant Senate races this year), a ruling that determines who appears on the ballot is a lot less conclusive that the decision as to who won after the ballots have been cast.

Update 10-7-2002 - I was right.
